Inexpensive Ways To Improve The Look Of Your Kitchen

A Focal Point In Your Home

Are you wanting to change the look of your home? Are you embarrassed to have people over.A great and simple way to increase a home's value is to improve the look of your kitchen. People spend a lot of time in the kitchen. Look at your cabinetry. There are many easy and effective ways to change the look of your kitchen. You can refinish your cabinets, or even alter them by creating a glass front.

You need to pay attention at the condition of your cabinets. If they are severely worn or damaged, you may want to replace instead of refinish. However, refinishing adds style as well as functionality. Changing the front of your cabinets to glass will completely change the look and can add a touch of class to your kitchen.

Refinishing Your Cabinets

Before you refinish, keep in mind that the technique you use will vary with cabinetry type. Some faux cabinets made from inexpensive materials and may not be suitable for most standard finishes. Composite cabinets are better suited to deep cleaning, painting, or veneering versus using stains or finishes that would reveal wood grains and result in inconsistent coloration.

Hardwood is most compatible with a variety of techniques, including natural finishes, stains, paints, or veneers. As with all home improvement projects, much of the work takes place during preparation. Prior to refinishing, use tri sodium phosphate cleaners to fill scratches or mask imperfections. Sanding is another possibility, as are gels which could prepare your surfaces without scraping away fine woodwork details..

As for the finish, you can choose from paint, stain, clear finishes, or veneer, which requires a large, climate controlled work area. Whichever method you feel works best for you, finishes can be applied with rollers, paint brushes, rags, or sprays. They should always be applied in well ventilated areas, and a kitchen pro should be hired for optimum results.

Changing To Glass Front

A great way to change old, flat surfaced cabinets is to make glass doors out of the doors you already have. Take the cabinet door fronts off and their hardware, so you can lay it down flat,
and then measure a opening for your cabinet door. It is best to leave at least a couple of inches around the edge to retain strength.

Drill 4 pilot holes in the 4 corners, and then using a jig saw, cut out your opening. Then put decorative moldings on the front, to hold your glass in, and 1/4 round on the back. Repaint your cabinets, and the change is stunning! It is not hard, and you will give new life to your kitchen cabinets without buying new ones, and getting glass cut is very inexpensive, (unless you go for tempered or etched).Changing the hardware can make all the difference in the world. You can update your kitchen, while waiting to update your bank account!

Creating Space

Some kitchens just don't have enough space. With careful planning, one can always maximize space in any kitchen. The optimal use of storage space is vital and this has to be done systematically as the kitchen is a multifunctional area.

The golden rule for freeing up any space anywhere is to first make it clutter-free. This also gives the room a neat and organised look and also makes it more pleasant to work in. Identify and discard any unusable utensils/unused pots and pans or any crockery. There are countless varieties of kitchen racks available in the market today. There are styles and sizes to suit every need. Use pull-out cabinets for lower-level storage space. You can also have a pull-out counter top space for cutting and other processes or a wall-mounted pull-out table.

Often, the major part of kitchen counter top and storage space is taken up by appliances. One way to increase storage space is to use combination or multifunction ones to reduce space needed. For example, there is a device which is both an oven and can brew coffee or a toaster.

Some brands combine microwaves with coffeemakers and so on.
